Barn Again

"Barn Again! Celebrating an American Icon" was developed by the Smithsonian Institution for rural audiences and small museums that do not have access to traveling exhibits because of space and cost limitations. Between November 2001 and September 2002, "Barn Again!" and related activities were presented in Gering, McCook, Belvidere, Lincoln, Bassett, Broken Bow, Madison, Tekamah and Springfield. The exhibit also was displayed at the 2002 Nebraska State Fair and the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer in Grand Island.

"Barn Again!" places the barn in the context of American history and the evolution of American agriculture. It provides information and encourages dialogue about the origin and development of the barn as warehouse, factory and cultural icon.

We welcome your comments on this fascinating and historical subject.
