Books available for loan statewide

The following books are available through the Nebraska Humanities Council for loan either individually or as part of a series. Books can be borrowed by any non-profit organization at no cost except shipping. To reserve books, contact the NHC at 402-474-2131 or e-mail nhc@nebraskahumanities.org.   

The American Plains

This series focuses on a sense of place and the challenges facing those who came to live on the Great Plains: Native Americans, European-American settlers, and those who followed. Inhabitants of the Plains have to establish a relationship with place—the land, the sky, the weather and the wind. The books in this series explore our relationship to place, our expectations and our responsibilities.

This list was developed by NHC staff to encompass important events and moments in American history.

Multicultural American Writing
This series was developed when the Nebraska Humanities Council brought together scholars in African-American, Asian-American, Latino and Native American literature to select books that bring about a better understanding of these cultures.

Lives Worth Knowing
Developed by the American Library Association, this book discussion program focuses on biographies and autobiographies. This particular series offers a multicultural perspective, including African-American, Hispanic-American, Polish-American and Native American writers.

Let’s Talk About It: Jewish Literature

Developed by the American Library Association this series explores identity and imagination in contemporary and classic Jewish literature. This set of books addresses the theme "Between Two Worlds: Stories of Estrangement and Homecoming."
