Category I. General Public Program

1.  Yours must be a not-for-profit organization.
2.  Program must be held in an accessible public place with space for at least 25 people.
3.  Program must be free and open to the general public.
4.  You must have promotional/marketing plan mapped out and described on application form.
5.  Program cannot be part of a club or organization membership or other meeting.

Cost: A $50 processing fee must accompany the application form. There is a $75 processing fee for the following high-use speakers: Dale Clark, Darrel Draper, Charlotte Endorf, and Chris Sayre. For a second program in a calendar year, the processing fee is $100. A $100 processing fee also is required if the second program is for a high-use speaker.

Limitations: Two programs per calendar year for the same organization and/or targeted audience. If an organization has a Notable Nebraskans program (whether it is the first or second program of the year) the processing fee for the second program is $50. Organizations are responsible for paying speaker honoraria and mileage over $500. For example, if the honorarium and mileage total $540, the NHC pays $500 and the organization pays $40. This does not include the processing fee.

Category II. Educational Institutions and Youth Organizations

1.  Yours must be an educational institution or not-for-profit youth organization.
2.  There must be an adult present before, during and after the program.
3.  You must incorporate program as part of teaching and/or youth development mission.
4.  You must prepare participants before program and follow-up after program.
5.  You cannot charge for program, but you may charge for meals associated with program.

Examples of eligible organizations:

1.  Elementary, Middle or High School
2.  Colleges or Universities
3.  Youth Organizations (Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H, YMCA/YWCA)

Free or reduced lunch eligibility: In schools where 50% or more of the students are eligible for the free and reduced price school meals program, the processing fee for the first program of the year is $35 and $50 for high-use speakers. For the second program of the year, the processing fee is $100. If one of the two programs is for a Notable Nebraskans speaker, the processing fee for the second program is $50.

Category III. Limited Audience Program

1.  Yours must be a not-for-profit organization.
2.  Program cannot be used for fundraising.
3.  You cannot charge for program, but you may charge for meals associated with program.

Examples of eligible organizations:

1.  Program for a club or organization meeting
2.  Special program for a social or civic club
3.  Program for an association's conference
4.  Public Institutions (prisons, state hospitals, state veteran's homes, youth treatment centers)

Cost: A $50 processing fee PLUS 50% of speakers expense as determined by the NHC office.** There is a $75 processing fee for the following high-use speakers: Dale Clark, Darrell Draper, Charlotte Endorf, and Chris Sayre. For the second program of a calendar year, the cost is a $100 processing fee PLUS 50% of speakers expense as determined by the NHC office. A $100 processing fee also is required if the second program is for a high-use speaker. 

 (**Public Institutions only have to pay the processing fee.)

Category IV.  Events

1.  Yours must be a not-for-profit organization or educational institution.
2.  You must have a central theme and need for multiple programs that support event theme.
3.  Event can cover multiple days but they must be consecutive.
4.  You cannot charge for program, but you may charge for meals associated with event.
5.  Program must be held in an accessible public place with space for at least 50 people.
6.  You must have promotional/marketing plan.

Examples of events:

1.  A three-day festival at a museum
2.  A two-day community history celebration
3.  A three-day youth camp
4.  A multi-school/class education event focused on a single theme

Cost: $50 processing fee per program PLUS $50 per speaker (for example, two speakers each doing two programs would cost $300).

Limitations: Two events per calendar year per organization and/or targeted audience.

Category V.  Residencies

1.  Yours must be a not-for-profit organization or educational institution (depending on the residency).
2.  You cannot charge for these programs, but you may charge for meals associated with the programs.
3.  Programs cannot be part of a club or organization membership meeting or fundraiser.
4.  Residency programs are designed for one audience (a speaker cannot be used as a scholar to conduct a series of short programs to multiple audiences).
5.  The project director must have developed a plan with the scholar before the application is submitted.

Cost: $50 processing fee per contact hour (for example, a four-hour program would cost $200).

Limitations: A one-day program should not be less than three hours or more than eight hours.

Category VI. By the People

1.  Yours must be a not-for-profit organization.
2.  Program must be held in an accessible public place with space for at least 25 people.
3.  Program must be free and open to the general public.
4.  You must have promotional/marketing plan mapped out and described on application form.
5.  Program cannot be part of a club or organization membership or other meeting.

Cost: There is no processing fee for Category VI.

Limitation: This program does not count against the two program limit for each organization and/or target audience per calendar year.
