  • Each organization and/or target audience is limited to two Speakers Bureau program or event per calendar year.

  • Applications for a Speakers Bureau program must be received by the NHC no more than one year and no less than 30 days before the program date.

  • NHC Speakers Bureau programs may not be used as fundraisers.

  • NHC Speakers Bureau programs may not be used to promote particular political positions or points of view. All NHC programs must be balanced.

  • Admission fees may not be charged for a NHC Speakers Bureau program.

  • The project director must notify the NHC and the speaker of any changes as soon as possible.

  • Speakers Bureau final reports must be received by the NHC no more than 10 days after the program date.

  • The sponsoring organization must acknowledge NHC funding in all print materials, media interviews and at the beginning of each NHC Speakers Bureau program.

  • The NHC poster must be displayed at the location of the Speakers Bureau program and must be clearly visible.

  • The organization must fulfill all publicity requirements for the NHC Speakers Bureau program (the NHC will send the organization a publicity packet after the request form is processed).

  • The organization must pay a $50 processing fee ($100 for the second program in a calendar year) that accompanies the application form. The following high-use speakers have a $75 processing fee: Dale Clark, Darrel Draper, Charlotte Endorf, and Chris Sayre. Applications will NOT be processed without this fee. A $100 processing fee also is required if the second program is for a high-use speaker. Note: Please check Categories and Eligibility Requirements section for Notable Nebraskans policies.

  • Free or reduced lunch eligibility: In schools where 50% or more of the students are eligible for the free and reduced price school meals program, the processing fee for the first program of the year is $35 and $50 for high-use speakers. For the second program of the year, the processing fee is $100. If one of the two programs is for a Notable Nebraskans speaker, the processing fee for the second program is $50.

  • The organization must prepare students for the NHC Speakers Bureau program and follow-up after the program.

  • The organization must have a teacher or adult youth leader present during the entire program.

  • The organization may not use the NHC Speakers Bureau program as a substitute teacher.

  • The organization must pay the speaker(s) on the day of the program (the NHC processes checks on the 15th and 30th of each month). The organization must deposit the check and write the speaker a check from the organization for the same amount as the NHC check.

  • Contributions from individuals to support the programming of the Nebraska Humanities Council at the Speakers Bureau program should be returned with the final report.

  • Individuals interested in making a gift at a later date should be encouraged to contact the NHC offices directly.

  • The NHC requires a notice of the cancellation of a program at least 15 days before the program, or the organization forfeits the processing fee.

  • If an organization fails to contact the speaker about the cancellation of a program, the organization is responsible for paying the speaker honorarium and travel cost in full.

  • Each organization is limited to two NHC Speakers Bureau programs per calendar year. NOTE: An organization may not have two programs in CATEGORY II and another program in one of the other categories. Also, a target audience can receive only two programs per calendar year. For example, if a school sponsors two Speakers Bureau programs, the PTA may not also sponsor a program for that school.

  • Organizations are responsible for paying speaker honoraria and mileage over $500. For example, if the honorarium and mileage total $540, the NHC pays $500 and the organization pays $40. This does not include the $50 processing fee.

  • Failure to comply with NHC Speakers Bureau policies can result in the organization not receiving future funding from the NHC.
