A. Skills Building

 

These residency programs are designed to develop skills in the following areas. Residencies must be between three and eight hours long and must be conducted in one day.

 

Creative Writing
By Twyla Hansen or William A. Clemente
These programs are designed for school groups. These programs help foster creativity in children and how to channel that into writing.

 

Storytelling
By Ricardo Garcia or Marla Matkin
These programs teach participants the lost art of storytelling. They also convey an interesting way to approach history and folklore. They are designed for both children and adults. 

 

Family History
By Susanne George Bloomfield, Deb Carpenter and Lyn Messersmith
These programs will teach participants about compiling family history and applying the family history story structure to life.

 

Nebraska Folklife and Folk Arts
By Gwen Meister
These programs teach participants the rich cultural heritage of Nebraska’s folklife and folk arts. Participants will identify their own folk traditions and learn how to recognize the traditions of other cultural groups.

 

Folk Traditions Through Music

Designed for school groups, these programs give students hands-on experience with the harmonica and teach how music reflects cultural traditions and conveys them from one generation to the next.
