A special group of programs called “By the People” is designed to engage the public in civic dialogue about our nation's role in the world. The initiative endorses no particular policies or points of view, but instead strives to bring diverse perspectives into a vibrant and ongoing discourse. Scholars act as discussion leaders and are available to travel statewide. There are two topic areas:

“Cuba Embargo” and “America in the World”

Discussion leaders are Chuck Parker and Tom Cook, both of Wayne State College. Both scholars were trained by the Kettering Foundation as National Issues Forum leaders. Both scholars are available as discussion leaders for both topics.

When scheduling a program, please go to the “By the People” web site at www.by-the-people.org and print the National Issues Forum discussion materials. These materials should be distributed to the audience. If you are unable to access or print the discussion materials, contact the Nebraska Humanities Council and we will send you the materials.
